Target audience
The Heart Failure Academy study days are for healthcare professionals only.
The learning is specifically tailored towards generalist members of the multidisciplinary team working in all sectors.
Those who have established roles in supporting people living with heart failure are welcome and will benefit from the shared learning and networking.
Why should I attend?
These sessions are multidisciplinary, providing a fantastic opportunity to network and share best practice. We will examine local system challenges and how we can work together across sectors to support people living with heart failure to get the best outcomes.
Aim
The aim of this study day is to support healthcare professionals to develop their knowledge and skills to provide a person centred approach to recognising the signs and symptoms of heart failure, enabling a timelier diagnosis, swift escalation to the right treatment at the right time.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the study day, healthcare professionals will
- have an increased confidence in recognising the signs and symptoms of heart failure
- be able to describe the appropriate referral of people with suspected heart failure
- be able to summarise the management of different heart failure phenotypes
- apply a person centred approach, evidence-based approach to heart failure therapy in a range of clinical scenarios
- develop advance care planning consultation skills
Dates
The content of each study day will be essentially the same on each date but tailored to each region (Humber North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire). Each session will be supported by local heart failure experts who support people living with heart failure across the whole heart failure pathway.

Heart Failure Academy masterclass webinar series 2026
We hope generalists in primary and secondary care will join us each month for our lunchtime webinar masterclass series in 2026 to upskill in Heart Failure.
Heart failure specialists colleagues are very welcome to attend and share their expertise.
All webinars will be recorded. Recordings will be housed in our Heart Failure presentation library.

Why attend:
Colleagues at previous events have said they would like to upskill in palliative care in heart failure and so we are delighted to welcome Dr Jason Ward, consultant in Palliative care at St Gemma’s Hospice, Leeds to present. In this webinar Dr Ward will cover when to take a palliative approach, when to refer to Specialist Palliative Care services, provide tips on advance care planning, and cover palliative symptom control (breathlessness, pain, GI symptoms, itch, depression and anxiety). A Q&A session will follow.
Dr Jason Ward an experienced consultant in Palliative Medicine with a history of working in hospices, community and hospital settings will deliver this webinar focusing on palliative care specifically in heart failure.
